Three local businesses receive recognition on a regional level for their efforts in health and wellness.
District Two Public Health recognized the Toccoa-Stephens County YMCA, Osborne Wood Products, and First Franklin Financial Corporation Monday with awards for its “Celebrate Healthy North Georgia” initiative.
Anderson Flen is District Two Public Health’s Health Promotion Coordinator.
He said these three businesses were among 21 honored throughout the 13 counties that make up District Two Public Health.
“Their awards were geared for things they were already doing right here in Stephens County, either for their employees or through their business,” said Flen.
Flen went on to say that what stood out in Stephens County was the diversity of the award winners.
“One was a financial business,” said Flen. “One was a wood production business. Another one was the Y.”
Flen noted that these businesses all realize the importance of a healthy workforce.
According to information from “Celebrate Healthy North Georgia,” the YMCA was honored for working with local pediatricians to confront child obesity by exploring insurance options and grants to pay for a personal trainer, nutritionist, and fitness facility membership for an entire family, along with hosting free health and wellness clinics along with its normal programs.
Meanwhile, Osborne Wood Products was recognized for having a gym at the plant and offering incentives for employees to use the gym and adopt a healthy lifestyle and First Franklin was recognized for offering wellness contests and initiatives for employees and a wellness homepage on the internal employee intranet.
