Broadband Internet Meeting Today in Stephens Co.

A group of state legislators will be in Stephens County today talking broadband Internet.

The Joint High-Speed Broadband Communications Access for all Georgians Study Committee is scheduled to hold a meeting today at 1 p.m. at the North Georgia Technical College Currahee Campus in Toccoa.

This is the group’s second meeting after it was created through a Senate Resolution.

It is tasked with examining the conditions, needs, issues and problems of high-speed broadband internet access in Georgia and submitting a report of findings and recommendations, including proposed legislation, by December 1, 2016.

The committee is made up of five State Senators and five members of the State House.

Among the members of this committee is 50th District State Senator John Wilkinson.

He said all interested citizens are encouraged to attend.

During today’s meeting, there will be discussion between the committee and regional officials, including Stephens County Development Authority Executive Director Tim Martin and Franklin County School Superintendent Wayne Randall.

Following the discussion, there will be time for public comment.
