Boat Explosion Injures Five

Boat ExplosionFive persons were injured after a boat explosion on Lake Hartwell yesterday.

Corporal Craig Fulghum of the Department of Natural Resources says the incident occurred just before 3p Sunday.

At 2:45 pm we received a call from Hart County 911 in reference to a boat explosion that happened around old Highway 29 on Lake Hartwell. DNR units along with Hart County Sheriffs office and EMS and fire department were in route to the scene, and arrived a short time after. There were four adults and one child on board the boat. The boat was fully engulfed in flames. When DNR and Hart County Sheriffs Officers arrived, the individuals were out at the boat ramp and were being treated by EMS personnel at that time for their burns.” said Fulghum.

Fulghum said there were five persons on the boat. Two adult males, Two adult females and one three year old male.

At this time, all the subjects involved are in route to the Augusta Burn Center in Augusta. One female was transported by air because her wounds were more critical then the others. At this time we don’t have any other information on the cause of the incident.” said Fulghum.

The identities of the persons on the boat have not been release.

Fulghum says the cause of the explosion is being investigated by DNR and the Hart County Fire Department.
