Basketball Season Ends At SCHS

The basketball season ended for both the Indian and Lady Indian basketball teams in the quarterfinals of the Region 8-AAAA tournament Wednesday.

On the boys’ side, Stephens County lost to Monroe Area, 60-59, at Buford.

The Indians trailed by six at the half, but outscored Monroe Area 23-6 in the third to take an 11-point lead into the fourth.

However, Monroe Area hit five three-pointers and sank important free throws as the Indians could not hold the lead.

Tay Jones had 20 points to lead the Indians and Deundra Singleton had 15 points.

Stephens County’s boys end the year 16-9.

In the girls’ game, Stephens County lost to Madison County, 44-35, at North Oconee.

The Lady Indians finish the year with an 8-17 mark.

The Region 8-AAAA semi-finals and finals will take place Friday and Saturday at the Currahee Arena in Toccoa.
