Area residents can save a little money this weekend on back-to-school items as a new school year draws ever closer in StephensCounty.

Today and Saturday marks the “back-to-school” sales tax-free holiday weekend.

According to the Georgia Department of Revenue, clothing and footwear with a sales price of $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax, along with single purchases of $1,000 or less of personal computers or computer-related accessories.

In addition, officials said general school supplies to be used in the classroom or in classroom-related activities with a sales price of $20 or less per item are exempt from sales tax today and Saturday.

Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie said the 2013 sales tax holiday represents an excellent opportunity for parents to save money on basic necessities when getting their children ready for the upcoming school year in Georgia.
