“Attire for Hire” Clothing Drive Underway

Local agencies are working together to try and help people looking for a job dress for success.

Family Connection of Stephens County is now accepting donations of new or gently used business attire in what is being called the “Attire for Hire” clothing drive.

Family Connection Director Allyson Warren said the goal is to collect clothing that people could wear when they are seeking a job.

“We are now, through December 13, collecting interview-ready clothing, meaning if you would wear it to a job interview and is in good shape,” said Warren. “Dress slacks, dress shirts, suits, ties, things like that. We are asking folks through December 13 to drop it off at the Salvation Army’s administrative offices.”

The Salvation Army Administrative Offices are located at 306 East Franklin Street in Toccoa.

Warren said the clothing will then be cleaned and pressed and made available to job seekers in Stephens County who need the help.

“People who are seeking employment with the Department of Labor, if they go in for job searches, they will be given a voucher if they do not have interview-ready clothing and they will be able to go to the Salvation Army Administrative Offices and pick up clothing,” said Warren.

According to Warren, they have found that there are a number of people who do not have such interview ready attire and this drive can hopefully help do something about it.

“We do not feel like that should be a barrier,” said Warren. “There are a lot of other things that can keep people from getting a job, but clothing should not be one of them.”

Warren also thanked Wally’s Royal Cleaners for cleaning and pressing the clothing that is donated during the drive.
