Northeast Georgia is remembering a well-known artist and author who passed away earlier this week.
John Kollock of Clarkesville passed away on Monday.
Debra Hartley with the Currahee Artists’ Guild said that Kollock was a large part of the art world in northeast Georgia.
“He was an art historian,” said Hartley. “He took wonderful historic locations and painted them and he had prints for sale. I have known John since the 1980s and he and Nancy are great friends. He did a beautiful print of downtown Toccoa.”
Among his many accomplishments, Kollock is also well known for contributing his vision to the transformation of Helen’s business district into what it looks like today.
Kollock presented a series of watercolors to Helen businessmen to help show them what the town could look like.
Memorial services for Kollock will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Grace Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville.
John Kollock was 85 years old.
