Arrests Made in Hart Co. Burglaries

Four suspects are behind bars in Hart County charged in connection with two separate burglaries.

According to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland, the first string of burglaries started about two weeks ago in a neighborhood near the Georgia/South Carolina state line.

On November 18, three people were arrested. They are identified as Jacky Daniel Dutton of Starr, South Carolina, Michael Jason Smith of Starr, South Carolina, and William “Tyler” Smith of Hartwell. All three are charged with theft by taking. Michael Smith and William Smith are also charged with second degree burglary and Michael Smith is also charged with first degree burglary.

In the second incident, Cleveland said one Anderson, South Carolina man was responsible for stealing trailers in both Hart County and South Carolina.

Arrested was James Eric Alexander, of 2118 Providence Church Rd. in Anderson, South Carolina. He is charged with two counts of theft by bringing stolen property into the state, three counts of theft by receiving stolen property, one count of theft by receiving stolen property, one count of misdemeanor theft by taking and one count of felony theft by taking.

All four remain in the Hart County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
