Arrest Made in Martin Christmas Light Damage

December 12, 2012

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office says it has arrested one person in connection with Martin’s damaged Christmas light display.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, 18-year-old Ernest Black of Childs Street in Martin was arrested Monday afternoon at his residence and charged with criminal interference with government property.

The arrest comes after Shirley says an investigation revealed Black, along with another unidentified individual whom authorities are still seeking on the same charge as Black, were involved in damaging Christmas lights in the town of Martin.

Last week, Martin town officials reported that an estimated $7,000 worth of damage was done to the town’s Christmas light display recently.

Officials in Martin say that 25 pieces of the town’s display were damaged and called some of the damage was very extensive. Sheriff Shirley says that the thousands of lights damaged were broken by rocks and a bat.
