Opening statements are set to begin this morning in the trial of a Toccoa man for an armed robbery last year.
The jury was selected Monday for the trial of Rufaro Christopher Smith of Toccoa.
Smith was indicted in April on charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during a commission of a felony in connection with the alleged robbery of a local convenience store.
Toccoa Police alleged that around 2 a.m. on September 4, Smith robbed Buddy’s Quick Stop at the corner of Big A Road and Currahee Street and assaulted the clerk on duty with a knife, injuring the clerk’s hand.
Meanwhile, Stephens County Clerk of Court Tim Quick says that jurors who were not selected for the trial and were dismissed Monday do not need to report for the rest of the week.
