Area Residents Appointed to State Boards

Three area residents are among those appointed last week to boards by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.

The appointees are Matt Arthur of Lakemont to the REACH Scholarship Board, Tom Wilson of Franklin Springs to the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Services Board, and Michael E. Mixon of Clarkesville to the State Board of Accountancy.

Arthur is currently the deputy commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia and currently serves on the Governor’s Education Reform Commission and Move On When Ready subcommittee.

He was previously the president-elect of the Georgia School Superintendents Association and served as a member of the State School Superintendents’ Advisory Council, the Georgia Education Workers’ Compensation Trust Board of Directors, the Rabun County Development Authority and the Rabun County Board of Health.
Wilson retired as manager of the Athens Unit, Vocational Rehabilitation Program for the Georgia Department of Labor and following his retirement, Wilson worked an additional five years as a part-time rehabilitation counselor.
Also, he previously served as president of the Georgia Chapter and the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association and as president of the Georgia and National Rehabilitation Associations, and is a current member of the Franklin Springs City Council and is a fellow of the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association.
Finally, Mixon is a certified public accountant and owns the firm Michael Mixon & Associates, CPAs.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the chairman of the Audit/Compliance/IT Committee of Southern Bank & Trust.
