Amnesty Day for Trash Saturday in Stephens Co.

Stephens County residents have an opportunity to dump their junk for free this weekend.

Saturday is Amnesty Day in Stephens County.

On Saturday, Stephens County residents have the opportunity to dump trash like furniture, mattresses, carpet, toys, grills, appliances and more.

This is a joint effort of Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful and Stephens County.

Tim Hale is with Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful.

He said Amnesty Day is a good chance to get rid of large items that are unwanted.

“Often, people are reluctant to do that because there is a hefty fee when you take it to a disposal area so recently, a couple of times a year, the commissioners have seen fit to open up and give citizens to bring that junk that accumulates around the house in for no charge,” said Hale.

Hale did say there some items that they cannot take during Amnesty Day.

Those include tires, liquids, and construction material.

Also, Hale said they are seeking volunteers to help work on Saturday to assist people in unloading and dumping their trash.

“We could always use a hand,” said Hale. “It is pretty strenuous work and it is going to be a warm day.”

He asked volunteers to check in at the entrance on Saturday.

“That would be appreciated,” said Hale.

Anyone wanting to volunteer can also call 706-391-0110.

The hours for Amnesty Day are from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Stephens County Road Department on Scenic Drive in Toccoa, near the Stephens County Jail
