May 24, 2013

AM 630 WNEG names its Senior Man and Senior Woman of the Year.

The annual awards were presented during Thursday’s WNEG Senior Expo at the Stephens County Recreation Center on Rose Lane.

This year’s Senior Man is Gary Donahue.

Donahue currently serves as the Board Chair for the Toccoa-Stephens County Boys and Girls Club and has been involved with the club for more than 20 years. In addition, he has volunteered as a mentor in the school system, as a coach and board member with Toccoa Little League, as a coach with the North Georgia Soccer Association, Scouting, the United Way, and his church, St. Matthias Episcopal Church.

“It is really quite an honor,” said Donahue.

Meanwhile, Linda Dean is the Senior Woman of the Year.

Dean is currently the Mayor of Avalon and serves on the Stephens County Land Use Committee. In addition, she has served on the North Georgia Technical College Alumni Board, been Chairman of the Farm Bureau women’s committee since 1991, hosted the third grade farm tour for the last seven years in Stephens County, and has been involved with the Ruritan Women’s Club, Meals on Wheels program, and Stephens County Senior Center in the past.

“I am speechless really,” said Dean. “I had no idea this was going to happen. I am very surprised.”

Congratulations to both Gary and Linda, this year’s Senior Man and Woman of the Year.
