Authorities in Banks County are searching for the person who left a suspicious package in a Starbucks’ parking lot.
Banks County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Carissa McFaddin said it happened Thursday morning at the Starbucks in Banks Crossing at Exit 149 off of Interstate 85.
McFaddin said the manager was advised by a customer about an object in the parking lot area and when the manager saw it, she called 911.
According to McFaddin, when deputies arrived, they found what appeared to be a suspicious package that looked like it may contain an explosive device.”
At that point, McFaddin said deputies evacuated the Starbucks and surrounding businesses and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene.
McFaddin said the GBI investigated and declared it was not an explosive.
She said once authorities did a secondary sweep of the area and no other devices were found, businesses were allowed to re-open at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday.
However, the investigation did not end there.
McFaddin said the package was taken into evidence and investigators are now looking for the person responsible.
Anyone who may have any information about this incident is asked to contact the Banks County Sheriff’s Office at 706-677-2248.
People do not have to leave their name.
