Accident Leads to Drug Arrest

A Royston man faces charges after an accident last week in Stephens County.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley said that on March 24 at about 6:35 p.m., deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle accident at the intersection of Camp Road and Isbell Road in Eastanollee.

Shirley said that deputies found a black 2003 GMC Sierra had driven into an embankment, causing major damage to the vehicle.

The sheriff went on to say that the responding deputy detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver and began to question the driver about the accident.

According to Sheriff Shirley, the driver failed to comply with the deputy’s orders and attempted to throw and hide suspected narcotics and once the second deputy arrived the driver was placed under arrest.

Shirley said the driver, 47-year-old Marty Hambrick of Royston, was charged with Driving Under the Influence of alcohol and drugs, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Schedule 3 narcotic, Obstruction of an Officer, Open Container, and Driving Too Fast for Conditions.

The sheriff said there were no injuries from the accident and the vehicle was occupied only by the driver.
