8 Stephens County Athletes Qualify for Sectional Track Meet

The Stephens County High School Track Team has qualified 7 girls and 1 boy for the Class AAAA Sectional Track Meet at Eagles Landing High School in McDonough, Ga., this Saturday.  They qualified by finishing in the top 4 in their respective event at the Region 8-AAAA meet held last week at Monroe Area High School.

Junior Marla Feaster, along with 3 freshmen—Alex Craft, Shawna Rambert, and Bailey Dobbs qualified in the Girls 4 X 100 Meter Relay; Feaster, Rambert, Dobbs, and Junior Deana Lewis qualified in the Girls 4 X 400 Meter Relay; Feaster qualified in the Girls 100 Meter Dash; Rambert qualified in the Girls 400 Meter Dash; Freshman Taylor Grimmett qualified in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles; Freshman Hannah Watkins qualified in the Girls High Jump; and Senior Gary Walker qualified in the Boys Shot Put.

Stephens County High School Track Coach, Rusty Grimmett, says the top 8 finishers in the sectional meet will proceed on to the state meet in Albany next month.  “So this is the point of the season where it’s really tough—it’s very competitive.  There is nobody that’s really bad, so it’s going to take a great effort to qualify somebody.”

Coach Grimmett says the sectional meet will be great experience, especially for the freshmen.  “It’s about gaining experience to go further next year, so it’s a tremendous opportunity for them.  We’re going to have a good time, and just want to wish all those girls good luck, and also Gary.”
