North Georgia areas, including Toccoa, could start seeing a new area code popping.
According to the Augusta Chronicle, North American Numbering Plan Administration Director John Manning, said that combinations of phone numbers for the 706 area code ran out last week.
The 706 area code covers Augusta, Athens, the Columbus area and a large portion of north Georgia.
The 762 area code was introduced in 2006 to help meet the growing need for more landline and cell phone numbers in the areas.
In the Augusta Chronicle report, Manning said use of the 762 prefix will become more common as the need for new telephone numbers continues growing in the regions that are covered by the 706 area code.
