2015 Shows Increase in Rainfall From 2014

Rainfall statistics show that 2015 was a much wetter year than 2014.

Here at the WNEG studios in downtown Toccoa, we measured 71.45 inches of precipitation in 2015.

That is an increase of more than 23 inches of precipitation from 2014, when 47.96 inches of precipitation were measured in downtown Toccoa.

However, 2015’s precipitation total comes up more than 12 inches short of 2013’s precipitation total in downtown Toccoa of 84.04 inches.

The 2015 total precipitation figure is the third highest yearly precipitation total in downtown Toccoa since 2007.

The highest amount in the time period was 2009, when downtown Toccoa got 86.10 inches of rain.

Meanwhile, Stephens County and much of Georgia start out the year in good condition, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The latest drought monitor report, issued last week, shows that only a part of southeast Georgia is facing “abnormally dry conditions.”

Nowhere in the state is under drought conditions as 2016 starts, which was also the case in 2015.
