15 Killed on Ga. Highways Over Memorial Day Weekend

The Georgia Department of Public Safety has said 15 people were killed on the state’s highways over the Memorial Day holiday travel weekend.

This year’s holiday travel period ran from 6 p.m. Friday through midnight Monday.

One of those traffic fatalities was reported by the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol.

Accessnorthga.com reported that a fatal accident took place in Habersham County on Pea Ridge Road near Cornelia.

Overall, the Georgia State Patrol reported eight of the 15 traffic fatalities over the Memorial Day weekend.

Besides the wreck in Habersham County, GSP posts in Calhoun, Cumming, Marietta, Helena, Thomasville, and Albany reported traffic fatalities.

Other agencies reported seven traffic fatalities over this Memorial Day weekend.

Those agencies were Gordon County, College Park Police Department, Bibb County, Columbus Police Department, Monroe County, Richmond County, and Houston County.
